Medical Education Research Centre
for Educational Technologies
(MEdRC EduTech)
MEdRC was set up in 1993 by Dr. Neeraj Raj, a gold medalist medical graduate of Osmania to help doctors teach and learn medicine making full use of the then evolving computer technologies. What started as a center to develop audio-visual aids at low cost for seminars, lectures, CME programmes, etc., has today evolved into an ambitious project that aims at significantly enhancing the existing infrastructure and quality of medical and health education through digital channels using SmarTeach, a World-Class Teaching/ Learning software developed by MEdRC.
While the initial effort is aimed at developing an
exhaustive library of digitally archived
e-Lectures by ?Master Teachers? encompassing
the undergraduate and continuing medical
curriculum, the ultimate aim underpinning the
effort is to support and promote the expansion of
lifelong learning at all levels of practicing
healthcare professionals, particularly in the form
of continuing professional development. In view of
this, simultaneous efforts are being made to
develop interactive and hyper-linked e-Learning
modules that include animations and simulations of
laboratory experiments and clinical case
databases.
A pilot phase has been highly successful ? over
8500 MBBS doctors have gone through a 300-lesson
course till date at 35 owned and franchised
e-Learning centers across India.
The project envisages the setting up a Wi-Fi Campus
Network at each of the medical colleges. Each
student joining MBBS could access 5 years of
integrated curricular content by logging in to the
SmarTeach Learning Management System (LMS). The
network shall over time also allow real-time
online interactivity between students and teachers
through tele-teaching and video
conferencing.
While MEdRC would spare no effort in bringing the
necessary scientific, technological, manpower and
financial resources together to make this into one
of the most desired medical education network, it
seeks to collaborate with various partners ?
universities, professional bodies, pharmaceutical
companies, technology companies and broadband
Internet providers. MEdRC is partnered with Intel,
HP, Microsoft, etc. towards this end.
