Functionalities of SmarTeach Medical LMS in Detail

Medical Student Management

Registration of each medical student who joins the college including his data sheet, contact details, admission details and creation and issue of a unique username and password to access the student side features of the system.

Registration of administrators and faculty of the college and creation and issue of a unique username and password to access the staff / teacher side features of the system.

Organize administrators and students into groups and assigning profile features for each group for reporting and content / assignment purposes.

Manage all class related resources, including classrooms and instructors including making schedules, teaching timetable and lesson plans based on the curriculum.

Integrate appropriate support tools including learning objects, exercises, reference material, lab work, tests, and opportunities to collaborate.

Medical Content Assignment

  • Arrange courses and events in menus and catalogues based on semesters, subjects, chapters and topics in an intuitively searchable manner.

  • Target content to the correct individuals or groups and provide relevant menu of courses and material using access rights and registration profiles.

  • Designate selected content as “required” learning and allow students to select other courses as they desire.

  • Create, edit, distribute, and deliver assessments to the medical students and get back individual and group performance data.

  • Develop personalized learning paths, bookmarks, notes, references and mind-maps for each student to let him/her learn at a convenient depth and pace.
  • Deliver online material or, in future, instructor led courses in synchronous or asynchronous modes, including course setup, syllabus display, and registration and tracking.

Communication

  • Enable communication between administrators, faculty and the medical students through means such as e-Mail, Chat, Discussion boards, Subject forum, etc.

  • Search and identify learners and deliver targeted courses, news, references, and other information to continually engage them. This is especially useful if the University and/or MCI wants to keep the students up to date on a daily basis with any announcements.

  • Supplement courses by integrating specific learning references into the platform and allowing access to external resources such as journals, articles, portals, etc.

Tracking and Reporting

  • Track and report on the progress and activity of individual medical students as well as groups of students.

  • Track and report professional development progress against a predefined set of learning goals.

  • Track and report that mandated training has been successfully deployed.

  • Determine whether knowledge has been retained after training.

Local Teaching Material Development

  • Develop new (proprietary) courses by each college or faculty or through a third party.

  • Use templates to speed development and bring consistency.

  • Conform to industry standards to improve compatibility between the course and the platform.

  • Integrate proprietary courses seamlessly into the learning environment
    Standardization of LMS

The international standard for any LMS is SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model). In SCORM world there is a set of services that launches learning content, keeps track of learner progress, figures out in what order (sequence) learning objects are to be delivered, and reports student mastery through a learning experience. A generic diagram showing the various modules of a SCORM compliant LMS is given below:
