Education sectors all over the world have for sometime paid much attention to the issue
of a Learning Management System
(LMS) to support teaching and learning through the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). The learner of the 21st century faces many challenges and demands innovative approaches in education. Technology-enabled learning is gaining new grounds in India. There has been wide spread movement in the country to adopt e-Learning techniques in engineering and technical education.
An integrated approach to develop a common e-Learning platform customized to a medical teacher’s and a medical student’s need was taken up by MEdRC EduTech with a vision to make it available at every medical college in the country, thereby setting common standards to use medical e-Learning content across all colleges.
At the centre of learning and teaching is the relationship and communication between the learner and teacher. The teacher draws on knowledge, expertise and resources to construct learning experiences based on the curriculum. These are constructed into lectures, activities and assessments. Supporting all of this are the administration systems that track progress. The delivery system is the component that acts as the interface between the learner and the other elements of the system.
The key idea is that an LMS consists of a set of software services that, in an educational context support the teaching and learning process, rather than replacing it.
